Rhythm Lives - Honouring the legacy of Ethel Bruneau

Curated by Tanya & Travis Knights, TITDF will be presenting a tribute to Ethel Bruneau to close this year’s festival. Community was a dominant priority to Ethel, so the show will include selected pieces of choreography from submissions.

A word about Ethel Bruneau:

For well over 70 years, Bruneau, a child of the Harlem Renaissance, spread the Gospel of Tap to audiences and students alike.  Rhythm, dance, integrity, passion and community were at the core of her life’s work and we need YOU to help us celebrate.

We invite Tap Dancers to submit a dance to perform in the celebration.  Professional or amateur, young or more seasoned, all are welcome! We’re looking for passion. This is an opportunity to work with some of the finest Jazz musicians in the city. If you don’t have much experience working with musicians, we got you covered. TITDF Artistic Director, Allison Toffan, will guide you through the process and help you with music charts so that you can be prepared to have a good time in rehearsal and on stage. There are limited slots available.  Submit your piece or approach to taplovetour@gmail.com. Please see application details below.

Ethel believed that Tap was for everyone. Join us in affirming that whether young or old, from any walk of life, Rhythm Lives!

Opportunity Includes:

  • professional performance credit as part of TITDF 2024 (show date: August 18)
